Google Search Personalisation – muldy raspberries

Bild von avlxyz
Just read and article that Google ‘personalizes’ one in five searches – The Register, based on cookies, search history etc.
Evidently, Google knows who I am.
I posted a photo of mouldy rapsberries on Google, and read another article that Google updates their search index every 10 seconds, so I decided to search.
Bingo. First result.
When I repeated that same search in Chrome, the results were different.
Scary stuff.

Numerical Algorithms for Personalized Search in Self-organizing Information Networks by Sep Kamvar
"eigenvector-based techniques in Web search, introducing a personalized variant of Google’s PageRank algorithm, and he outlines algorithms–such as the now-famous quadratic extrapolation technique–that speed up computation, making personalized PageRank feasible."
